World population is estimated to increase by two billions in 2050 according to UN(United Nations) and about 80% of population will be living in urban areas where the farming is not main activity. This will increase the demand of food thus scientists and technologists have started designing the farms which can float on the sea. This means that there will be no need of land to conduct agriculture and the food demand will be reduced by this new future technology.
One of the firm that is trying to come up with this solution is Forward Thinking Architecture from Barcelona Spain. Floating Farm will also save arable land and protect environment in general.
Designing of Floating Farm
The floating farm will have rectangular shape having the size of 660 by 1150 feet. It will consist of solar panel that will ensure plants grow well across the sea. The bottom level would contain fish farms, external perimeter wave barriers and protection, water access points, storage, a slaughterhouse, a desalination plant and a packaging facility.
The floating Farm will have the ability to store rainwater on the top part, other facilities that will be incorporated on top side are photo-voltaic panels for electricity and skylight openings to provide natural light for plants which will facilitate photosynthesis.
The floating farm will have hydroponic garden which is most important thing as long as it does not use natural precipitation and fertile land.
The designers said the farm is ideal and helpful for many large cities or densely populated areas with access to water, such as Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Seattle, Tokyo, Singapore, Mumbai, Jakarta, Cairo, Hong Kong, Shangai, Sao Paulo, Osaka, Bangkok, Shenzen, Istanbul, Montreal, Seoul, Karachi, Sydney and many more.
If the technology is going to be achieved it will be helpful to the countries with no enough land for farming with large population.

Drawbacks of floating farm
The designing of the floating farm includes the tools which are expensive in such case large number of people will face difficult to build such kind of farms for individual uses. The second thing which will hinder the farm is that not all countries have seas hence the floating farm might be not applicable to many people in the word.If the technology is going to be achieved it will be helpful to the countries with no enough land for farming with large population.
